I recently saw a clip of the episode, and I think it was Kyle that gives Stan the advice to keep going forward by taking a left turn instead. This I see as an admission that the show can't really continue in the same formula, and they need to change things around a bit. And after that we can indeed see some season wide themes being introduced for instance.

Oh, that one I remember quite well. I guess I'd interpret it as an admission that their work isn't that good anymore, but they're still going forward while accepting that they can't reach the same standard.
I don't remember money being a big theme of the episode, so it's harder for me to see it as "we're still doing it for the money".

I think South Park doesn't really have that many voice actors. A lot is done by Matt Stone and Tray Parker.

What South Park managed very well for a while was to repackage politic subject in ways you couldn't really notice. Now they can't seem to manage to make them as subtle as in the older days.

It's a personal taste thing. It does have the most immature humour, and if that isn't your thing, it makes sense you wouldn't like it.

TBH even I can't really make up my mind which I like better. Maybe I'd call early Simpsons slightly better than early South Park. But with Futurama in the mix it's really hard for me to decide.
