@Pyretta What I don't really understand is, what you propose we do? I'm sure once upon a time, fascists and other despicable people organized via old fashioned mail. Should we start banning mail or have the state open our corespondence to make sure fascists don't use the post office to organize?

If you see someone talking about shooting up something, feel free to report them to the FBI, or whatever institution is adequate to deal with such things in your country. But other than that, I've seen no feasible way to preempt such discussions online that would not be at least as tyrannical as an actual fascist state.

So yeah, I'm not surprised that people are making jokes and photoshopped posts when others go into this kind of rhetoric.

Scratch what I said earlier. The increase in performance is absolutely noticeable if you have an old CPU.

Fuck Specter/Meltdown fixes. I don't believe for one second that these things were actually created for security reasons. Remember, Intel was still the dominant power in the CPU market when these vulnerabilities were made public, and at the same time, they've been failing to make significant performance advances for several generations. So why would people buy new CPUs, if they weren't much better?

I'm sure you're smart enough to understand where I'm getting at.

So apparently you can actually disable Specter/Meltown fixes in Linux to mitigate those CPU performance losses. I just did that, but honestly I don't know if I'll manage to tell the difference.
