I'm not even sure if it was self-awareness that made them do that. I think it was their twisted authoritarian/totalitarian leaning & fucked up morality. They've basically become the "hitler did nothing wrong" meme with their new motto of "Do the right thing". They're literally the bad guy that actually thinks what they're doing is for the greater good.

I honestly don't know enough about writing, so can't comment much. But I'm guessing in Trump's case, it might be a matter more of observing how he conducts business, and condensing out core principles from that.

So for over a decade, Valve had no idea where they wanted to go with HL3.
Now they made HL:Alyx (awesome) and they decided to revive Eli Vance (again awesome). My question is, did they actually figure out where they want to go with HL3, and they realized they needed Eli for it, or are they back to square 1, where they don't know what to do with the franchise, but this time they also have Eli just because they could.
