Around 10 years ago the phrase the American Atheist community used was "Christian theocracy". The "Christian nationalism" is new. It came up somewhere during Trump's term, and I believe it's trying to hitchhike on the overall white nationalism scare (or just the hatred for nationalism in general).
In any case, if you wanna believe there's an OP by nefarious forces, this is probably it.

I don't know that much lore from Marvel Comics, but apparently Kang is an actual character (an alien), and he supposedly was referenced in the Loki show (haven't watched it).
