@AMaleKateMossFan @applejack @LukeAlmighty @dave Much more phonetic than french and english. English has kept our very middle/early modern english form of spelling, which is why it's so confusing to learn the written word.

Even "hotel" (hótel in French), "menu" and "restaurant" there are just direct French
@GinNig @AMaleKateMossFan @LukeAlmighty @dave Not even just that, other languages change loanwords to fit the language, whereas English takes both pronunciation and spelling
@applejack @AMaleKateMossFan @LukeAlmighty @dave Oh yeah, it's an oddity. I blame the french and the people who thought it better to speak french than english. The idea that english doesn't have or can't have its own english word for something is retarding, actually retards the language. Words convey an idea and meaning, so you just put them together, which people do all the time in their everyday lives for their needs
@applejack @AMaleKateMossFan @LukeAlmighty @dave Also, we have an ungodly amount of anglisized latin and greek. So adding foreign words isn't too big an issue
But yes, we just take in words as they are, as opposed to making a new word that makes better sense to our language.
