@matrix Has he considered that just arbitrarily picking liberalism because thats the norm where he is, isnt actually sensible. "centrism" being liberalism for you is as arbitrary as centrism being islam for an arab guy
@applejack Is liberalism the norm in Canada though?
But the point is more:
You have an equation x + y = z,
if you put x = 6, y = 3, you get z = 9 and side A celebrates, side B seethes.
If you put x = 8, y = 1, you get z = 9 and side A seethes, side B celebrates.
That is illogical. An equation is either always correct or always wrong (I'm not claiming correct and wrong in political moral sense, it's about consistency). If the equation is broken or calculation is done wrong, nobody should celebrate and if it isn't nobody should seethe.
@matrix I don't understand the point of the example, sorry. I'm just thinking that people can sometimes be right and sometimes be wrong. Obviously this can be rephrased from anyone's POV
*in SS uniform* "If you think I'm based and redpilled when pwning the left but think I'm cronge and extremism-pilled when I'm talking about hydrogen cyanide or child marriage, the problem might be your view on the world"
It's basically just "ur dumb, im right" with extra steps
@applejack
Yeah, OOC it does sound like that. However I think he meant it for specific cases, especially of behavior, the video this comes from is about purity spirals and where he takes the stand that purity spirals while a good short term strategy are ultimately an destructive behavior leading to bad outcomes no matter who does it and it makes no sense for you to be both for and against it.

@matrix A purity spiral to some is having standards for others. When you talk about everything in some abstract, you can make up anything you want. That's the main issue with these "video essayists"
"Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater" says one guy while the other says "one bad apple spoils the bunch", and they're both right
@matrix https://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/rotten+apple+spoils+the+barrel
Refers to the fact that a rotting apple can cause other apples in close proximity to begin to rot as well
Obviously mold on one thing transfers to another thing. This even applies generally. If a member of group X is bad, chances are now higher that there is something inherent to group X that's bad
@applejack
Yes, but if you remove the rotten element the chance drops.
