@waifu in fourth grade there was a Japanese exchange student girl who knew no English at all and I crushed hard on her because I was a dumb weeb. I sat next to her and bought a Japanese phrase book to try to communicate but literally never said anything to her. Before the end of the schooyear I jewgle translated a letter for her (and this was like 2004 jewgle translate so extra bad) to say goodbye. Recently I found the doc with the letter on an old computer and it was pretty much gibberish. But she actually sent a reply letter back from Japan and I still have it somewhere, and I sent a reply back but nothing happened since. Still I feel stupid about the whole thing.
