@ChristiJunior while there are definitely those who are just obsessively protective I really think it is generally just a catch-all method to slow down chinks putting it on AliExpress t-shirts and people who flood public gallery sites with AI art in their style. Most care less about if John Prompter is sharing random AI pics to his friends. They also do not really care if the watermark ticks off the average non-Asian viewer as most Japs will side with the artists and Japs don't really care about the watermark anyway (they already have censored porn what more is a watermark to them). It kind of gives them a base layer peace of mind against it, I guess.
I dunno not defending it, but I pretty much am... I'm just not really surprised when they do things to defend their hobby or work when those kinds of issues pop up, it's annoying that there's these watermarks but I can also imagine it's annoying to them when a gallery gets flooded with AI slop in their style after they spend 20 years trying to git gud at drawing anime tits
