@MK2boogaloo @Colonel_Bustard it's usually about either how cool the instrument is or how pretty it is, and violin is probably the prettiest instrument in an orchestra (at least, from a normie pov).

actually, flute probably contends with violin. and piano is as normie as it gets so that one is probably up there too. if we're talking strictly orchestral setting then the piano is ruled out, but if the piano player is playing pop music at a party they're getting all of the bitches (as long as there isn't a guitarist than can sing).

if i'm being totally honest, my favorite is probably the clarinet because i'm a squidward-ass motherfucker. i'm a fan of the register its notes are in and just the particular timbre of it. i really like the piano too, but usually less in an orchestral setting and more as a solo instrument. when violin is at the forefront in something like devil's trill sonata, it can be really cool, but most of the time it isn't what i'm listening for.

@MK2boogaloo @Colonel_Bustard also i forgot to mention but there's a huge difference between orchestral percussion and a drummer in a band. usually, there will be a whole team of percussionists playing individual instruments. they aren't driving the rhythm of the music either, that's the conductor's job. most orchestral pieces use them pretty sparingly (relative to "normal" music) for emotional impact.

@MK2boogaloo @Colonel_Bustard clarinet is going to be more expensive. start with a keyboard, not an actual piano.

@MK2boogaloo @Colonel_Bustard piano is also probably the best instrument you can learn because it teaches you a lot about music and you can carry that over to practically any instrument, even many percussive ones as piano is both a stringed and percussive instrument.
