>70 dollars for an unfinished piece of shit
>30 for games that are feature complete and I can sink all my time into

Still don't understand why I see people defending this shit. The argument was that companies ABSOLUTELY NEEDED that extra ten dollars and that the reason they were doing microtransactions is because 60 a pop wasn't enough. It's what Extra Credits said, and it's what all these fucking cucks on twitter said.

Well now we have 70 dollar games, and they're still unfinished pieces of shit with microtransactions and no one is admitting they were wrong because they're fucking retard consoomers.
@weebSharpie this shit is just sunk cost fallacy on a massive scale. People are too embarrassed to admit they're hooked on shitty games
@Kyonko802 @weebSharpie people are hooked on fifa and 2k and as far as im aware gameplay and visuals barely changed in the last 10 years now you get real ads in your game :0170:
@rainignterror1080p @weebSharpie I know I'm hardly one to talk with all the time I've sunk into fgo but there's something really nasty about that ultimate team shit. And the ads. They're really making people shell out 70 dollars for what might as well be a mobile game.
@weebSharpie @rainignterror1080p yeah. It slowly creeps up on people. First it was 60, hardly anyone remembers that standard price for ps2 and Xbox games were 50. Then after that it was micro dlc, then season passes, then lootboxes, then gacha in a full price game, and then ads in a game. They wait for the outrage to die down and then add the next gross thing.

@Kyonko802 @weebSharpie @rainignterror1080p back then and even more so in the 90s, you were lucky if you got more than one game on your birthday and one game for christmas. and you had to hope they were AAA games because you'd always have parents and grandparents buying shitty movie tie-in games that were only like $20 in the bargain bin or whatever.

that's why sharing games was such a huge thing back then. used to strategize with friends and family members on who would get what game so we could play them and then swap them around so everyone could play everything.

it's also why renting games was so huge, because instead of buying a game for a lot of money you could just rent one for $5 for the week, play the fuck out of it, and then return it. we're seeing a sort of resurgence with that with things like Game Pass which is honestly a really nice system. essentially "renting" the games you really want to play but don't want to pay an exorbitant amount for, and the games you do want to keep forever you can buy outright.

the games you do want to keep forever

You can keep some console games forever, if you don’t have a digital only version of the newer ones.

I know you think Steam will be there forever, but eventually, it won’t. It might be 20 years from now, it might be 50, it might be 5 .. but one day those servers will go away, and some of your games won’t even start without dropping in a replacement steam.dll.

@djsumdog @weebSharpie @Kyonko802 @rainignterror1080p valve has said that if they ever do go under, they'll let you download all your games and play them without needing to connect to steam. up to you whether you trust that or not i guess, but thankfully there is a whole litany of people out there that can and do crack stuff anyway.

steam going under doesn't seem like it will happen in the near future, though. it will at one point, obviously, as everything will, but it's not like playstation or nintendo running old and relatively unsecure servers for old platforms that you can't buy brand new anymore.

I’ve become a stickler for physical media again precisely because I don’t trust promises of not revoking access and de-DRMing stuff upon company folding, etc. Send me a physical disk or cartridge that I can use at my leisure or bust.

I do prefer DRM-Free content. Cheaper than physical media, you can store into any backup place.
True, and Humble Bundle has a decent store for picking up at least indie titles DRM free. I try to check there if I ever see a title on Steam, and will even pay a few $ more sometimes if they offer it DRM free.
You can pick from GOG, and ensure every game is DRM Free.

Humble Bundle nowadays offers too many Steam keys.

@djsumdog @weebSharpie @NEETzsche @waltercool @Kyonko802 @rainignterror1080p there are actually a pretty decent amount of indie games on steam that, while they don't advertise it, just don't have any DRM at all. you can quite literally just copy the files out and play them offline without a steam connection.

@waltercool I want to insert a cartridge into a console like a white man. This cloud shit is for bitchmade soyim faggots.

@djsumdog @beardalaxy @weebSharpie @Kyonko802 @rainignterror1080p
Terry truly was a profit. I'm starting to think god really did speak to him.
Why would you use the cloud sht?

Using lgogdownloader or hb-downloader you can download every single purchased game from GOG or HumbleBundle.

No need to use their website after that, unless you want to download updates or newly expansions.
@beardalaxy @NEETzsche @djsumdog @beardalaxy @weebSharpie @Kyonko802 @rainignterror1080p physical media or just DRM-free (or at least fully offline DRM) file? as long as you can back it up yourself and use it without a central DRM auth server I don't see an issue
@roboneko @djsumdog @beardalaxy @weebSharpie @NEETzsche @Kyonko802 @rainignterror1080p The issue with modern physical media with games is its still drm'd. Most ps4, ps5, xbox games ect do not have the full game on the disk you need to download the rest of the game + updates.

@KewlestCat876 @roboneko @djsumdog @weebSharpie @NEETzsche @Kyonko802 @rainignterror1080p MVG has done some videos about Xbox games that have this issue, although it seems like that is being remedied at least on that side of the pond.

I've never connected my Switch to the Internet and it plays every cartridge fine. Most games have updates, but you put in Red Dead or God of War on an disconnected PS4/PS5, it will still install and play. If it's an old enough press of a disc, you might get some of the old bugs, but it should still work.

@djsumdog @roboneko @weebSharpie @NEETzsche @KewlestCat876 @Kyonko802 @rainignterror1080p with playstation and switch at least, physical games that require system updates to play will actually include the system update on the game itself.
