My mom could do it, back when she made up her own dresses.

I think they use wheel cutters or lasers commercialy.
@pinemarten by "probably they don't" I mean it probably does not need to be as accurate as I'm trying to make my cuts

that is almost always the case when I'm trying to do something by hand that seems nonsensically difficult. it's not that other people have superhuman abilities, it's that there are ways of compensating for being a mere human later in the process

@deprecated_ii @pinemarten yeah it likely doesn't have to be completely straight since you'll be stitching and such later that will change the shape of the fabric anyway. I'm willing to bet they use guides of some sort still though. There are these mini, hand powered versions of a table saw that will get you a straight cut. Just a blade that you push through after getting everything lined up.
