That Metroid Prime remaster is actually insanely good. I was saying it probably would be better priced at $30 earlier but nah, it's worth the $40. Why do Nintendo games have to be so damn good? It would be a lot easier to be mad at them for all their shit if their games sucked xD
Seriously though, even though it definitely is a remaster, it may as well be an extremely faithful remake. The game looks amazing and plays so flawlessly.
When I got into Tallon IV in the rain, just watching the rain run across the arm cannon and actually change depending on the angle of it... Pure sex. Proof that someone can still make a beautiful game on the Switch.
I think part of that reason is because it is still using mostly old techniques for lighting, just with more power available to it. I'm really not a huge fan of modern day lighting solutions because, even though they are technically more accurate, they have a lot of quirks to them and sometimes take me out of the game. Back when lighting was baked in and placed by hand, and cube maps were used instead of SSR, I don't know... Everything just looked cleaner and more aesthetically pleasing. No super noticeable impossible reflections, no weird noise on the edge of shadows or inside reflections. It's not as dynamic, but it is less distracting and more stylistic, which I prefer to realism. Plus, it performs better lol.
