Funnily enough, it's merchandise that supports artists and creators the most in Japan, rather than direct sales of a series.

Here in America, not even merch will help. You have to track down the creators themselves and give them money if you truly cared about supporting them.
@beardalaxy @SuperSnekFriend @beardalaxy @TopBep The merchandising and tie-ins are likely why those TV-Y7 cartoons are mostly a moneymaker. The parents/adults that have some kind of attachment to them also contributed. Not much reports that I could find on cartoon piracy's effect compared to that of anime.

@SuperSnekFriend @TopBep this is how music is in the USA that's for sure. Unless you're giving money to people directly, actual music sales aren't worth dick to musicians. It's all about live shows and merch.
