@mushroom_soup my family had a house up until I was in 3rd grade. My dad decided it was cool to sell it and uproot all of us for a small promotion in a different state, where we stayed for 2 weeks before moving back and being homeless for a couple of weeks. Great decision. That house had an unfinished basement that would have easily supported our family in the end, the neighborhood was amazing, the backyard was huge... Every time I see that house again it's like getting a glimpse of what could have been. The trees that were once tiny saplings are so big now. It was all just rentals after that. Crazy to think that house was only $130K.

I know of people who inherited their family's house and still live there well into adulthood. Just paying property tax and utilities. Wouldn't it be nice... Every generation has to start from scratch these days it seems, and it isn't like doing that is getting any easier.
