there's an extremely small percentage of people who are actually using the API anyway, and a lot of it has just been hammering away at the servers to scrape shit for AI.

not really, since if you're using an app that's not the official one you are, and the official one is borderline unusable dogshit. there's an entire cohort of zoomers and such on ios that only know reddit via apollo, and it's popular enough that apple highlighted apollo at wwdc before.
(also, if they're trying to deal with ai scrapers, then you know that they are going to be axing the legacy web interface next as well, since that's virtually just as easy to scrape as using the api is. once that goes reddit will be absolutely unusable in every sense of the word).
