do you guys think that buying a slightly slower GPU with more VRAM is better than buying a faster GPU with less VRAM, given the state of new games coming out?

@beardalaxy @beardalaxy The extra VRAM is nice to have outside of games, especially with AI and video rendering. I have an RTX 3060 12GB that's alright for those tasks.

@berkberkman yeah that's what i was thinking. with all the bugs on 8gb cards on newer games, i'm thinking a 3060 12gb is actually a pretty good purchase if you've got a tighter budget.

i have a friend who has a 2080s in his part list he wants to buy and was telling him that he'll get better frame rates with it but newer games have some issues with the VRAM. which is retarded, but it is what it is.

under normal circumstances the 3060 doesn't really need 12gb, but for AI, video recording, and new games it might be a life saver.

@beardalaxy @beardalaxy There is the 2080 Ti 11GB that might be a better option (and I thought of getting one myself), but it's a little too expensive so far, and it's more power hungry compared to the newer GPUs (it's one of the first gen RTX GPUs after all).

@berkberkman i've got a 2080ti right now, but i was given a broken one to fix with the promise i could keep it if i could fix it lol.

if i had to buy a brand new card because this one broke or something, i definitely wouldn't buy another one that's for sure.

@berkberkman i'd be rocking my 1080 for another little while and save up for something else, maybe a 4070.

@beardalaxy @beardalaxy I'm waiting for the inevitable RTX 5000 series graphics cards just to see if NVIDIA makes a value 4K GPU that also has a great amount of VRAM. Maybe their future marketing campaign involves mentioning that 12GB isn't enough anymore for the average gamer, and/or 4K is the new norm or some other ridiculous claim.

@berkberkman i'll probably be using a 1080p monitor until the day that i die lmao. maybe 1440p. MAYBE. but even then i don't think i'll play games like that. i value high detail and high frame rates more than high resolution.
