It's all good. There are even a couple of rockbands that have made rock operas about Megaman 2 using the soundtrack. The Protomen have a multi-album rock opera series about a minor character from the games named Protoman. The Mega's made an entire album that just recount's Rock's journey to beat the robot masters using their themes in the correct boss order.

also a lot of those old synths and keyboard are way higher quality that some of the stuff you see today. The early electronics musicians had their tools purpose built for them to compose and perform music on. Yellow Magic Orchestra was pretty much the father of Japanese electronic music and all their equipment was custom built and they took a programmer on tour with them to calibrate and program their instruments.

It feels less emotionally manipulative. When there are lyrics they are usually related to a scene in game and the thoughts or emotions of a character present. That or they are in Japanese and I can't understand them.
