@gray it still can be technically. I ran 720p VGA for a few years lol. I'm pretty sure it can go up to 1080p.
@beardalaxy I looked it up on Wikipedia and they say VGA cable can go up to 2048×1536px (QXGA) @85 Hz.
@gray @beardalaxy I used it at 1360x768 in the past when it was still commonly used, but I remember I never could find a display that would let you go too far beyond resolutions at about that pixel density. I may have gotten one up to 1600x900 once with VGA, but I can't remember for sure. Definitely never saw one actually working IRL at 1080p resolutions before.
@icst @beardalaxy There were probably some crazy expensive CRTs for desktop publishing or something that went really high resolution.
