@rasterman some people were complaining about mk8's dlc, saying they wished we just got a new game instead.
meanwhile i'm sittin here like... $25 for 48 tracks? literally double the amount that's in the game right now? and we're getting new characters on top of that? how can anybody complain?
the game is already so fuckin good, easily the best mario kart imo. i will certainly take more of a good thing rather than risk getting a new thing that isn't as good.
@SapientPearwood @rasterman that's a fair point, and something i've never really thought of before. the only DLC that really has had physical releases are things like PC game expansions back in the day.

I mean, there is a small chance that mk8 gets another physical release with all of the content once it's done, since it's not out yet entirely. Maybe alongside whatever the next iteration of the switch is.
I totally forgot that a lot of games used to have "complete collection" editions that came with all the DLC too. The issue is that games barely fit on discs anymore and some of them flat out aren't even using them these days.
I have very low hopes that they'll release a new version and even lower hopes that they'll follow in the Switch form factor for their next generation console. Nintendo is well known for being retarded and following insanely successful consoles up with trash fires. They've already said they don't plan on following the Switch up with another hybrid portable/home console. Maybe they'll change their minds and release something like a Steam Deck/Aya Neo/GPD Win/ROG Ally/whatever other handheld PC instead of whatever they have in mind. The market is clearly clamoring for handhelds, we have waited all our lives to get handhelds that can play AAA games on the go and Nintendo would be retarded to ignore that but they have done even dumber things.
It's 50/50 on whether the "Complete Collection/Remaster/Ultimate/whatever" edition of games gets released physically. Some do and some just get updated store pages where the only version you can buy anymore is the complete version. It gives them a reason to charge full price again. I wish they'd keep releasing games on disc but they make more money by letting Sony/Microsoft/Valve host the game digitally.
The reason it takes multiple disc's now is partially due to them not compressing the game files very well if at all. There was a recent AAA game, I want to say it was The Last of Us but it may have been something else, that when released on PC got tons of shit for an insanely huge download. When people finally finished the download they noticed that NOTHING in the game files had been compressed. Not the cutscenes, not the music, nothing at all. Even with that though they could still fit most games on a single disc if they wanted to.
They make blank 100GB blu ray discs, called BDXL, that are available to the public for $10 per blank disc. They could be had more cheaply by game developers if they truly wanted their massive game to be on one disc. The problem is they don't want people to have physical copies, they claim it stops piracy, and don't want to spend the extra couple of bucks to press games.
