To think at some point Sega was competing with Microsoft. The first and last time these four would compete together.

Now it's down to Nintendo, Xbox and whatever the fuck Sony is doing.
@Rasterman it's weird, nintendo used to be the authistic kid that just focuses on its bing bing wahoo games on the corner while soyny and microcock were being the "vanguard" of gaming.

now nintendo is the guy up top while soyny has become a figurative troon that's still jerking off to "muh graphic fidelity"
@rlier23 @Rasterman Nintendo was pretty much always putting out superb first party games tho, in between the game droughts. The GameCube was a commercial failure, but still delivered games like Metroid Prime and Paper Mario: TTYD. The Wii was considered the Lol Casuals console, but still had games like Mario Galaxy, Xenoblade, Zelda Skyward Sword etc. It's just that during the Switch years they're actually getting some credit for it, and they no longer suffer from those nasty game droughts.
@Hoss @Rasterman @rlier23 It was. It only sold like 21 million, less than the Xbox (24 million I think), and a lot less than the N64 (33 million). Nintendo was in trouble prior to the Wii becoming this big gaming phenomenon out of nowhere.

@ChristiJunior @rasterman @rlier23 @Hoss I wouldn't say they have ever been "in trouble" necessarily because their handhelds have done really well.

GBA (2001): 81.5m
DS (2004/2006 [Lite]): 150m
3DS (2011): 75.9m

There is a good reason why Nintendo consolidated their console and handheld projects into one. The handhelds all outsold their console counterparts. Now, their hybrid has nearly outsold the DS, their most popular piece of tech.

@beardalaxy @Rasterman @rlier23 @Hoss Before the Switch Nintendo *did* have one or two years where they actually lost money tho, which used to be unthinkable. I know Year of Luigi gets memed on a lot for losing them money, but I think it had already happened to them once before, a few years earlier.
@beardalaxy @ChristiJunior @Rasterman @rlier23 @Hoss I've always hated the dual screens of the DS onwards. Such a waste of space, money, and battery power on top of being distracting as hell.
It's not Nintendo hardware if it doesn't have a gimmick that persists well past it's sell-by date.
