@icedquinn i think most people agree that buffing is better than nerfing, at the very least
@icedquinn i just tend to be in the camp that buffing things makes them more fun, while nerfs make them more boring. you can balance for both ways, but buffing is usually harder since you have to bring everything up to the gold standard's level instead of just taking the gold standard and nerfing it. that's why devs *usually* go for nerfs.
@icedquinn i'm moreso talking about things like i-frames, reload speed, movement speed, things that make the game actually FEEL a certain way while playing a certain class/hero/etc. or if we take fighting games as an example, stuff like knockback or launch angle of a certain move.
buffing those sorts of things always makes a character feel better to play, but nerfing them will make the character feel worse to play. they might be more balanced, but not as fun anymore.
i can remove 5hp from one class or i can add 5hp to every other class. the result is--relativistically speaking--identical
