Guys quick I don’t know shit about computers.

How bad is Windows 11?

@Evil_Bender Okay so in order to downgrade a Windows 11 computer I’ll need a Windows 10 license key I think? I doubt they’ll just let you downgrade a system for free if it came with Windows 11.

I don't know if you can. I asked to have my computer upgraded to XP a few years ago, and they thought I was nuts
Nigga you better not have it plugged in to the interwebs
That operating system is vulnerable to everything lol. But I sure do love it.

@matty @TheWanax @Evil_Bender It seems like every introduction post-Windows 7 has just been complete garbage when it comes to operating systems. I only really liked XP while I had it on my own laptop back in the day because it was very customizable, from its look and feel to its versatile amount of software that could be ran on it (stick figure animation software).

Windows is now simply Telemetry Simulator with some translucent effects. I try to use Linux as much as I can. I'd recommend you do the same, depending on your use case.

@matty @Evil_Bender @TheWanax I’m interested in actually gaming and doing some things like with animation and music production so my only Fediverse exports won’t be relegated to stupid puns and fighting!

So I don’t know how good Linux is with digital audio workstations but the good news is that I can finally do that dual-system thing I talked about months ago and have Linux on one drive and Windows on another (I guess?) so I can experiment.

Why’s Linux so good?

There are some applications you can use on Linux for some productivity stuff. Kdenlive I heard was decent for video editing - not exactly Premiere but good enough for most use cases. Gimp for photo editing and manipulation. Linux has less overhead and is generally more secure. Not saying they can't be breached, but permissions are handled quite differently than Windows. If you're just starting off, consider Ubuntu or Pop_OS!

The more accustomed to the terminal you become, the easier it'll be for you to complete tasks. For most productivity and gaming though, Windows is still the best. I dual boot, so I have Windows on one SSD and Linux on another. When I want to work on NCD or anything else I just use Linux. When I want to play video games or give my data to Microsoft, I use Windows.

The best way to really figure out how to use it is just to use it. Play around with it. Hell, run it in a virtual machine on Windows if you want, using VMware or VirtualBox. You'll be slightly limited there but it's better to do that when you're starting off since if you delete your entire file system you can just revert to a snap shot or a checkpoint.
If you'd like help with those things just let me know and I'll guide you as best I can. Just know especially for virtual machines to lower your expectations. Not saying they're useless, but the performance differences between running an OS natively versus in a VM is quite profound.

@matty @Evil_Bender @TheWanax I’ll look to you. I once ran Microsoft Windows XP in a VM and it was

it was definitely something.

XP is just difficult now because driver support is not there. It's a massive pain in the ass to load drivers in there since you're missing the service pack required to run the executable to install the driver and you cant use IE6 to download anything even if you had an ethernet driver installed. It's all cattywompus but fun regardless
Plus the 2003 internet is just 99% gone with all the software versions that were compiled for the W32 API of that era.

@Evil_Bender @tyler @matty @TheWanax A lot of people say enlisting isn’t exactly worth it, looking back. My brothers that served are even like that.

I, like most was young. I bought into America and what it was selling. I didn't realize we were wrong until maybe 2010ish. I didn't go full steam National Socialist until maybe 2018. I just wanted to play video games.

@Evil_Bender @tyler @Matty @Owl @TheWanax the only people that enlist these days are people who have no idea what the fuck to do with their life or people that think they can make money and get free housing/education/health care by doing it, while pushing the risk in the back of their mind.

there's a 17 year old kid at work who is trying to graduate early so he can join the military right when he turns 18, even despite all the shit that's going on right now he doesn't know what else to do and thinks that he'll be able to coast on by and get skills he'll be able to use in another career after he retires (at age 38, according to him, so 20 years in the military good luck kid, hopefully no wars break ou.... wait).
