They're likely using Mosul for operation guidance. The Mosul campaign lasted nine months, and the command capabilities were more advanced than what the Israelis currently posses. That said, the US is likely advising the coordination efforts based on an estimated 12-month operation window. They appear to have purchased an operation window from governments that could have assisted or benefited from helping the Palestinians.
If that's the case, then they're ahead of schedule. It's doubtful that they'll introduce more powerful munitions since it would cause more political problems; they're simply going to keep chugging along, and go for the high score. For comparison: there was only estimated to be 9,000-11,000 civilians killed in Mosul over a nine-month operation window.
