One of my coworkers today was telling me that she doesn't like to have candles in her house because they're made with runoff from oil refineries and that you are essentially breathing in oil and it ruins your lungs. I joked with her that smoking is better for you, because she smokes lol.
I was curious though, so I looked it up. Turns out that there are multiple kinds of wax that candles are made out of, the only one being derived from oil being parrafin wax. All of mine use soy. Apparently, parrafin wax isn't all that bad for you anyway as long as you're not exposed to it burning for over 8 hours a day.
It's just really funny the things that people latch onto, like my other coworker getting freaked out that Lucky Charms uses a "cleaner" as one of its top ingredients (literally just trisodium phosphate). Or, my obese roommate trying to tell me that it's possible to get too much nutrition when I was putting spinach onto my wheat bread sandwich. I undoubtedly have things like this too, as I'm sure we all do, I just think it's funny.
