After this entire #BestVidyaGirlContest recap, there’s one issue that still needs to be decided – In the aftermath of such an utterly DOMINANT tournament run, should Samus be retired ahead of Season 2? The arguments for this strike me as obvious – Samus is just too strong, and now that we know just how overwhelmingly powerful she is, she’d essentially kill future tournaments with her presence. I mean, just look how much more one-sided and boring the semifinals and final match turned out to be, compared to so many epic early-tourney matches. Whereas something like a Remilia VS Tamamo final would probably have been really close, competitive and exciting, Samus VS anyone else inevitably becomes a stomp, with even the strongest of competitors only keeping up with Samus for a few hours at best.

The arguments against retiring Samus would have to do with giving her the chance to defend her title, as well as the possibility of potential brand new contestants (like Marisa and Zelda) being capable of threatening her. There’s also the fact that Samus has yet to be tested against a strong core gaming girl, having so far only gone up against Meme-fueled ladies (DDLC Yuri, 3 Touhou reps, and Tamamo). That said, I think that if anything Samus would actually spank the likes of Pyra and 2B even harder than she spanked the Meme girls, since the core gaming girls share much of the same fanbase, and Samus is easily on top of the pecking order.

Also, retiring Samus from the main tournament doesn’t mean she’s completely gone from the contest – she’d still get to face the eventual Season 2 winner in a Duel of Champion bonus match, she just wouldn’t get to tyrannize the main bracket. And depending on the outcome of the bonus match, she might even become eligible for a possible 3rd best vidya girl tournament.

But ultimately, this is your call – should Samus be retired and limited to the ultimate bonus match, or should she return for Season 2 as the #1 Seed?

@ChristiJunior I'd say retire and then have the champion match at the end. it'll be far less interesting if she's included imo. this is coming from someone who is actually pretty satisfied with samus winning the first one but if she just wins the second one again it's gonna' be kinda meh. i think i'd feel that way for every matchup she won against anyone.
