Just starting Ocarina of Time 3D. The small 3DS screen works great to diminish the impact of such dark age graphics.

I'm still on the intro. The Deku Tree from BotW appears in this game. And there's a fairy character that talks and is not a large fairy.

WTF is a Kokiri? Link lives inside the Deku Tree? It's very early. I'm mid-way through a dialogue, but had to stop when I noticed this game reuses the "home" theme from Minish Cap. We've got another game with a kid Link, it seems.
Link is the son of the Deku Tree, or so I gather. The fairy seems to be a part of the gameplay. I'm guessing she's the game's gimmick, like Ezlo in Niggish Cap.

Link auto-jumps near a ledge. I'm not sure if this is gonna be a good idea... :0390:

So it's a town of parasitic elf people who live off the Deku Tree. Controls seem fine so far.
OK, I was at the starting area, and within two minutes got into the Lost Woods and I'm now at the entrance to Goron City. This game is DEFINITELY smaller than BotW. WTF. :whitecat_wtf:

I can't get in, though, so I guess I need to fuse a kinstone piece with some villager or other.
@Rasterman its weird seeing a play by play of a REAL zelda game from someone whos only played botw lol. interesting takes
@suquili This is slander. I have finished Zelda 1, played Zelda 2, finished ALttP, Minish Cap, BotW and TotK. I think I can speak on all things Zelda with authority and expertise.
@Rasterman ill confess ive never finished those first three lmao. 1 and 2 were too hard and at some point when I was like 9 I got stuck in ALttP and its been set aside since
@suquili Zelda 1 is garbo. I only played it because I saw it on the NWC 2015 and realised my total lack of Zelda knowledge meant I would've been instantly disqualified had I been a participant. I couldn't let that stand.

I should've let that stand. Zelda 1 is horrible and Miyamoto should feel bad about it. You can get softlocked with Ganon if you don't get a specific "optional" item and the fight is unwinnable. :reeEEEE:

Zelda 2, I like the gameplay, but progress is obscure and you gotta wander a lot if you don't know where to go.

Zelda 3 is like a worse Minish Cap (except for the kinstone piece bullshit). Maybe I should re-visit that one. People seem to like it but I played it too close to Zelda 1 and the wound was still fresh.
Nigga these were top tier games when they came out 50 years ago 😤 Are you not a huge fan of the steam engine because it's outdated?
@SK1ZM @suquili The steam engine didn't softlock you in the engine car when you got to Stockton. :pepereeeee:
How did you manage to break Zelda 1? There's only like 5 items in the whole game, which is 30 tiles, and you missed one 😖
@SK1ZM @suquili I made my own map as I went. Had to attach an extra piece of paper when I ran out. If only it were that easy; but there are caves hidden throughout and you can only guess where they are. The one item needed to win required entering one such cave.
At least you're actually going back and playing the classics. It's gotta be rough going back that far.
@SK1ZM @suquili There's a simple elegance in the old games I can enjoy... 🧐

...except WHEN THEY FUCKING SUCK! :loli_rage: Ever tried to play Ice Climbers? Man, that game is trash. Playing Chack N' Pop taught me that children can suffer video game-induced depression. G.I. Joe taught me anxiety. And B-Wings taught me what a game constantly crashing at random times looks like... Worst part... I liked B-Wings. :cry_angry:

But when you avoid all those problems, there's a simple elegance. 🧐
I liked Chrysalis and Startropics on NES. Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, FF2 and 3, Mystical Ninja, Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore, and Ogre Battle for SNES. Seiken Densetsu 3 and Romancing Saga 3 for Super Famicom.
@SK1ZM @suquili Know Crystalis by name. Played a little Startropics. Looked good.

Chrono Trigger, somehow I played somewhat far despite hating the battle system. Won't try again. Same for every FF.

I intend to play the SNES RPGs one day. Never had them. Wouldn't have mattered since I didn't have the English knowledge to understand the dialogue.

Just looked up Romancing Saga. Thought it was a strategy game for the longest time. :pepe_feelsweird:

@Rasterman @SK1ZM @suquili what part of chrono trigger did you not like? the active combat system? you know you can switch that off in the options so it plays more turn based like a traditional jrpg right?

@EdBoatConnoisseur @rasterman @SK1ZM @suquili how did I not know this that would have made things so much better for me
