@Blakie depends on what you mean by "cheap." all the free VPNs are sketchy. expressvpn isn't great. nordvpn/surfshark are owned by the same company and seem okay.

i use mullvad. it is very secure, in fact you can straight up pay with cash in an envelope if you want. you only have a unique account number and that's it. you can have your account registered on up to 5 devices at once. it's about $6 USD per month, but it's nice because it means i don't have to pay for a full year of vpn access when i barely even use the vpn to begin with. it's nice to be able to pay for it when i need it. so while it may not be the cheapest option, at least i don't have to pay for it when i'm not using it.
