Can't actually be invested in anything, that would open yourself up to the one thing there is apparently no counter for: criticism. Or, you can't ever just have the stones to admit that while something you like is stupid (and Kingdom Hearts is very stupid but I like it anyway), but you just like it. Everyone is playing too much of the social game and wants to be someone to even nobodies they will never interact with again or in real life. Sad.

@Owl @PraxisOfEvil kingdom hearts is a little dumb, the whole idea of smooshing square and disney together is ridiculous and cheesy and the plotline is probably the most convoluted in all of gaming (right next to metal gear but it's war/espionage shit so it makes more sense).

however, it has what a lot of games don't (especially these days) and that's SOUL. i don't think there's any other series that makes me *feel* the way i do when i play KH or think about it. even the feelings of nostalgia i have for it are somehow advanced. any time i listen to "dearly beloved" i can feel my heartstrings getting stretched out.

my version of this meme though is probably DmC which a shit ton of people hate but i think it's awesome. "oh nooo they make donte edgy punk boiii noooo" yeah idgaf the gameplay fucks and the music is insane.

Not everything has to be smart. It just needs to be soulful.

@beardalaxy @Owl @PraxisOfEvil I like DmC even if it is dopey. The elevator music joke and Bob Barbas fights were perfect and mediocre bosses aside I find it way more playable than DMC4s awful campaign attached to the autistic combo lab BP.

It had the genres first good training room too

@DrRyanSkelton @Owl @PraxisOfEvil the way the combat flows is just second to none. it completely ruined the rest of the series for me xD and again i have to mention the combichrist soundtrack which is so cracked.

Dearly Beloved is one of those special songs that can just break me, it gets the #2 spot after Route 113 from Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald. I get extremely melancholic when I’m alone - I hate it and yet I’m a sucker for melancholic music.

The KH1 version is beautiful. It’s calm. It’s wistful. It’s overwhelmingly lonely, like silently crying during a moment of weakness and uncertainty.

The KH2 version opens up in a way that evokes the same feelings of melancholic uncertainty as the KH1 one (those 3 slurred cello notes are all you need) but it slowly evolves into something hopeful, something with just enough courage to carry on and face what’s ahead.

The KH3 one speaks for itself. It’s nothing but triumphal, that feeling of uncertainty is completely gone. They perfectly summarize each game’s tone and Sora’s journey through them to an extent.

@Xeraser @Owl @PraxisOfEvil a lot of the 3rd gen pokemon music is sooo good. littleroot town is the one that kills me. i don't know how these composers channel something like childhood innocence into music like that. nothing quite like it.

@Xeraser @beardalaxy @Owl @PraxisOfEvil Not sure if Gen 3 can compare to Ecruteak City's theme from Gen 2

@beardalaxy @Owl @PraxisOfEvil yeah kingdom hearts is very fun and nostalgic for me too despite getting shit on constantly. I still remember coming home from school to play kh2 for the first time and how much fun I had. the games were cringe but you’re allowed to be cringe and just be happy
