@Nigma@mastodon.social I've probably used Firefox based browsers as my main browser for the past 20 years. Never really cared for the Chrome based stuff.

I was using Firefox for a very long time but it fell off in recent years so I ditched it. Curious about Ladybird though, new open source browser written from scratch. Might switch to it from ungoogled-chromium once it matures a bit. It's still pretty early in development.
@dushman@hollow.raccoon.quest @Nigma@mastodon.social I am indeed also curious about what Ladybird will became.
I have a bad feeling about the project however because it uses a permissive license I'm afraid it will only play into the hands of proprietary forks and not launch us into a great new era of freedom respecting browsers.
@dushman@hollow.raccoon.quest @Nigma@mastodon.social If you like the older versions of Firefox from before Mozilla became what it was today you should try Palemoon. It is a fork of a really old version of Firefox, but still maintained in a way that it supports most modern browser features making it almost entirely its own unique browser engine.

Just installed it, gonna test it out. The default dark theme is fugly but I remedied that by downloading a decent looking one.
@SuperDicq@minidisc.tokyo @Nigma@mastodon.social
Probably just gonna stick to using ungoogled-chromium though cuz it's what works best for me
@coolboymew@shitposter.world @SuperDicq@minidisc.tokyo @Nigma@mastodon.social
Vivaldi is proprietary lol. I've tried it and see no point in using it over ungoogled-chromium, better privacy cuz it has no telemtry or anything like that.
@coolboymew@shitposter.world @SuperDicq@minidisc.tokyo @Nigma@mastodon.social
The UI is straight up just worse imo but that's personal preference ig.
@coolboymew@shitposter.world @Nigma@mastodon.social @SuperDicq@minidisc.tokyo
left side tab bar is just simply superior too
There are like 20 different chromium extensions that do exactly that if you're into it, unnecessary for me though.@coolboymew@shitposter.world @Nigma@mastodon.social @SuperDicq@minidisc.tokyo
Yeah like SuperDicq said this is not unique to Vivaldi whatsoever
@dushman@hollow.raccoon.quest @coolboymew@shitposter.world @Nigma@mastodon.social Whatever browser you're using, at least be happy that you're not using actual meme browsers like Opera GX or Brave.
@SuperDicq@minidisc.tokyo @coolboymew@shitposter.world @Nigma@mastodon.social
Opera GX
Ah yes the shit tier gamer bait browser, even Brave is leagues ahead.@SuperDicq @Nigma @coolboymew @dushman i don't like brave's crypto shit but you can turn it off and get a clean browser with a built-in adblock that is actually really good and won't fall victim to manifest v3 because it's a separate thing written in rust.
was using waterfox for a few years, switched to brave and found it to be a much nicer experience personally. it's less hungry and was easier to work with.
afaik, it is among the best performing browsers, with edge actually being a contender for the best but the ms shit definitely shows.
if you're really going ham on trying to have the most secure/private browsing experience possible without just flat out not using the clearnet at all, then using hardened firefox and only enabling javascript when you actually have to and shit is the way to go. for other people that just want a good out of the box setup though, where you just gotta turn off some crypto shit, brave is great.
opera gx, on the other hand, force feeds shit into their browser like vtuber streams and jump scares. kinda bordering on unethical there, imo. absolute meme browser.
@beardalaxy@gameliberty.club @Nigma@mastodon.social @coolboymew@shitposter.world @dushman@hollow.raccoon.quest Librewolf also comes with ublock by default.
@beardalaxy@gameliberty.club @Nigma@mastodon.social @coolboymew@shitposter.world @dushman@hollow.raccoon.quest If you want Firefox with reasonable default settings that do not break most websites just use Librewolf instead.
