It's pretty funny, if you visit Mexico you must speak Spanish because they don't know English.

HOWEVER, if they come to the US, you also better learn Spanish because they still won't know English because we want them to keep retain their "culture" right? Wouldn't want to understand your neighbors at the cost of their "culture"

@nihilvt i know a decent amount of spanish, enough to like barely communicate basic ideas. i refuse to speak it to people who can't even meet me halfway with english. i don't even say "no entiendo" or "no hablo espanol" i just shake my head and shrug. i see people all the time who don't even understand me when i say "hello."

even if i were to go on a vacation to a country, i would learn enough to know how their currency works, basic greetings, how to order things from restaurants, etc. it is common courtesy and respectful to do so. these people have no respect, so i refuse to respect them.

@nihilvt this is exclusively a problem with spanish speakers, by the way. i have seen immigrants from tons of other places and they all seem to either genuinely be trying to learn english or they already know it well enough and just have a very thick accent so it's kind of hard to tell what they're saying. i guess that's probably because it's harder to come here illegally if you're not from mexico. russians, ukrainians, chinese, taiwanese, vietnamese, never have a problem with any of them. i sometimes have a harder time understanding south african people lmao.
