It's pretty funny, if you visit Mexico you must speak Spanish because they don't know English.
HOWEVER, if they come to the US, you also better learn Spanish because they still won't know English because we want them to keep retain their "culture" right? Wouldn't want to understand your neighbors at the cost of their "culture"
@nihilvt i know a decent amount of spanish, enough to like barely communicate basic ideas. i refuse to speak it to people who can't even meet me halfway with english. i don't even say "no entiendo" or "no hablo espanol" i just shake my head and shrug. i see people all the time who don't even understand me when i say "hello."
even if i were to go on a vacation to a country, i would learn enough to know how their currency works, basic greetings, how to order things from restaurants, etc. it is common courtesy and respectful to do so. these people have no respect, so i refuse to respect them.
@beardalaxy@gameliberty.club at very least have a translator ready lol learning a language is hard but they move here en masse and can't even whip out Duolingo while they hide in the box truck?
America shouldn't be a dual language country, actually Mexican culture is great for Southern US but not if I can't order some of those fresh pressed tortillas in English
@nihilvt there's a mexican restaurant close to me that's absurdly good, but it is impossible to order there because their english is so broken that i can't understand what they're saying, especially amidst the noise and commotion. i made my old roommate order for me because he somehow had no problem understanding lol.
