It's time to get a demo working for the Next Fest in February. I'm thinking of just making it start from the beginning of the game and restrict the player to only the starting nation, which is about 1/5 of the map and contains no main story quests beyond the intro.

Alternatively, I was thinking I could let them explore a lot of the world but block off a lot of areas, maybe they can get past the first main quest and potentially the second one. Block off everything else. That would leave roughly the same amount of game, 1/5, while letting them explore some more locales. That's like 3-5 hours for a demo so I think that's pretty good.

Any other ideas? I don't want to go with a time limit because, due to the openness of the game, the timer could very easily be removed. A timer being there also just changes how the game is played psychologically and I don't think I want to go with that option.
