@verita84 all i want is an official, tasteful krystal nude scene but instead it's going to be wolf x fox yaoi while falco gets cucked in the corner and slippy is gooning over the security cams while drinking some zesty flavor of coca cola

star fox autism

@verita84 oh yeah
-star fox is on snes.
-star fox 2 is an snes game but wasn't actually released until the snes classic and it's on the nintendo online emulator.
-star fox 64.
-star fox adventures on gamecube, which is just a zelda clone by rare, refactored from an original game called dinosaur planet meant to release on the n64.
-star fox assault on gamecube, more traditional star fox but with on-foot sections, by namco.
-star fox command on the DS, which is a tactics game with fog of war directed by the original star fox dev.
-star fox zero on wii u, which used motion controls and the second wii u screen as a cockpit view, and is a rehash of star fox 64 (which is a rehash of star fox) with elements from assault's story.
-star fox guard, which came packaged with zero and is a tower defense spin-off with slippy and his grandpa or some shit (never played it).

we haven't had a star fox game since 2016, and we arguably haven't had a "real" star fox game since 2005. there was a remake of 64 on the 3DS that was pretty good in like 2012 or 2013, but that doesn't really count.

i still don't think 64 has been matched, from both the actual franchise and fan games attempting to capture the same magic. there is always some unnecessary gimmick or something that is just not quite right in terms of gameplay.

my personal order from best to worst: 643D, 64, assault, adventures, zero, command, star fox, star fox 2. i just can't enjoy those last two with their low frame rates.

@beardalaxy @verita84 There was that other one on the DS where you had to steer the stick with the touchscreen. If it had good controls, it could have been an actual Star Fox.

@p @verita84 yeah that was command. the tactics one. you would basically have a tactics map that you would draw on to chart the path your arwing would take, and then you might run into some enemies along the way. most of the battles were empty maps in all-range mode, but i think there were some that were more traditional star fox on-rails segments. the thing a lot of people don't like about command is how the story was handled, it's kind of like a CYOA thing and there are tons of different endings you can get that can be very radically different and some of them are also really weird and kind of cringe. like krystal joining star wolf and changing her name to "kursed" or fox and falco becoming f-zero racers lmao.

but what you described is exactly how i felt about star fox zero. if it had regular ass controls, i would have liked it a lot more. i had the most fun playing it when i was playing the two player mode with my friend so i could just use regular controls while he aimed all over the place with the gyro.

@beardalaxy @verita84

> yeah that was command. the tactics one. you would basically have a tactics map that you would draw on to chart the path your arwing would take,

I do not remember a tactics component or drawing the ship's path; it was like they wanted you to use the touchscreen as a joystick. But I also refused to draw a loop to do a barrel roll so I might not have gotten to that part.

@p @verita84 yup, they're the same exact game.

here is a guide for the story branches btw lol. you can see why some people thought it was a little much.

@beardalaxy @p @verita84 I fugging loved Star Fox Command, one of my early NDS games. Too bad most of the Star Fox community didn't like it.

@Jens_Rasmussen @p @verita84 i played a lot of it as a kid too, and it is fun in small doses, but it really does not hold a candle to most of the other games. the multiplayer was also unplayable because everyone was using action replay cheat codes.

@beardalaxy @p @verita84 I never played the multiplayer, but I just very much enjoyed the tactical aspect of the game. That appeals to me.
I recognize that the shooting gameplay was not on par with other Star Fox games, but it is also easier to make an impressive corridor shooter than whatever you'd classify Command as.
@beardalaxy @verita84 I mean, I liked 999 so this part was probably fine, just the controls for flying the ship were such terrible shit. They bothered to make the D-pad do something but that thing was "fire regular gun". Every direction. They could have just done the same SNES controls and it would have been fine, but they wanted you to treat the touchscreen like a joystick that you had to look at to make sure you didn't accidentally launch the bombs. I have only emailed Nintendo once in my life, and that game was the reason.
