@TwixbarTrix no offense but you kind of come off as the bad actor here.
Most artists I've seen have their comm slots in their name or their bio.
This guy commissioned you with the idea that it would be done in a timely manner because this wasn't brought up at all, so it must not be an issue.
He pays you (presumably in full?) and then waits a week to ask for an update.
Then he doesn't get an update and finds out there are a whole 13 other people in line ahead of him and there's no telling when he's going to get his commission worked on.
Meanwhile, you don't have the money to refund him even though you haven't even started on his commission yet. So you already spent the money he paid you without actually giving him anything in return.
I would probably do a chargeback too, to be completely honest. Having no idea when you will get your commission even started and having no idea when you might be able to get a refund is crazy.
Going forward, I would make sure you put the amount of commissions you currently have somewhere noticeable, and make sure you can give people their money back if you don't have anything to show for it. This could have been avoided entirely.
@TwixbarTrix There is something to be said about patience, I waited like 6 months for guitar hero buttons once. It was pretty clearly stated though that he had a huge backlog of orders so they weren't going to be finished any time soon. It was basically a "buy now and you'll get it when you get it" kind of thing and I was fine with that. If that notice wasn't there, I would have expected the buttons to get made and shipped out right away.
Like he said, he wouldn't have paid for a commission in the first place if he knew his spot in the queue, so it feels predatory even if that's not the intention.
If the reason is truly that he just got butt hurt or something then that's lame I guess, but I seriously would implement some better communication practices and please do not spend people's money if they haven't gotten their stuff yet. That way, if the reason IS that he's mad you don't like him there's not other very valid reasons to request a chargeback.
@beardalaxy I will definitely be implementing a more direct visible queuing system for sure. Being predatory is definitely not my intent. But this dude IS just a bad dude, my mistakes aside. I do appreciate your approach to this though, and I'm glad you commented. The main reason i didn't have a system is frankly, after drawing for maybe about 8 or so years online and having no issues like that, I never expected it to be such an issue. It truly has been only him.
