@mischievoustomato this is true though. jrpg originated in japan for sure, but it is still a distinct type of game that can realistically be made by anyone.
@beardalaxy @mischievoustomato I'd also like to note as of late that the mainstream of the two styles are starting to converge under pressure from other genres as well as the general mtx sloppification of the industry. You almost never see turn based combat systems anymore outside of games made for enthusiasts and things like Bethesda slop have been getting more and more popular in Japanese AAA gamedev circles with each passing year.
@beardalaxy @mischievoustomato (conversely, things like Genshin Impact have been hugely influencing westies and before that Final Fantasy was massive during the PS1 era, with several Western developed games taking direct influence from it like Anachronox and Septerra Core)
