@beardalaxy@gameliberty.club this is why they killed it 😔
@emma it's also why they are going way more hardcore with the "break our rules for online user engagement and we brick your entire console" thing
@mitchconner @emma @Hoss as far as i can tell, the OS is exactly the same. but it could theoretically be a different OS with a switch 1 skin over it.
@mitchconner @emma @Hoss i have no doubt in my mind that the modding community will be working overtime to try and get shit cracked on the switch 2.
@mitchconner @beardalaxy @emma @Hoss the switch 1 modchip relied on a hardware exploit and while microsoft fixed this both with new hardware designs (which unfortunately for them were at the tail end) and by making the xbox one hardware more robust against hardware attacks, nintendo's strategy is to just throw legal at the problem.
Maybe the Switch 2 will have protections against hardware exploits if they were smart because Microsoft learned from the RGH and Kamikaze hacks that people will do anything and literally anything for free games including drilling holes in chips.
OK fine I'll look it up. Oh the kernel is called mesophere. I think this is the only open-source project I can think of that has been able to create a kernel that can replace the existing one on a proprietary OS like that, aside from like some other crazier projects for older Windows versions. https://github.com/Atmosphere-NX/Atmosphere/tree/master/mesosphere
