@why "why your favorite game aged horribly" "why the worst game ever is a secret masterpiece" runtime: 3:24:03

@beardalaxy ok the original post was a sperg but i reduced it to a shitpost and now let me reexpand it

all games that are widely considered good (dark souls, deus ex, mario 1) have a lot of doo doo garbage bullshit buggy kusoge elements. and that their good qualities are:
-enhanced in immediate contrast to the bad
-dependent on the bad bullshit to exist as good
-some other third thing that makes a lot of sense
games developed to take advantage of the good while avoiding the bad, end up directionless. the cycle repeats, much time and money is spent on making games that are bad not because they choose to, but because they're trying too hard making it the most not-bad.

hope this helps!
@why @beardalaxy mask of the betrayer is one of the greatest stories ever told in a video game. parallel with planescape: torment and deus ex.

the game itself is total dog vomit though. kind of like planescape: torment.
@Nudhul @beardalaxy havent played either nwn but stories alone don't really matter, deus ex could have the story and voice acting of resident evil 1 and it would change nothing for me. it's a delivery thing, it's the technique of the artistry, the skill of the painting process not the indulgence of its subject
@Nudhul @beardalaxy we are on an incomprehensibly complicated free open source social media site
@why @beardalaxy i just really liked MOTB even in spite of the ultra janky gameplay. i dont know if it would have had the same impact as a book.
@Nudhul @beardalaxy yeah theres a lot of stuff i like like that, there has to be a game element to it or the pacing is wrong.
