it seems the definition of "bricked console" has changed from being a literal brick that you can't do anything with to getting a console ban and only being able to play physical games or digital ones that were already on the console.
this is how you know how many tourists there are walking around the internet these days, trying to read what is basically a foreign language and just assuming they know what everything is.
wtf are you supposed to call a bricked console now in order to get them to understand the difference? a cooked console?
@PurpCat it's just interesting to me that Nintendo catches insane amounts of flak to the point of going overboard and straight up lying about and sensationalizing what happens. Like, let's focus on the things Nintendo actually does wrong and also bag on the other companies when they have missteps.
I think people got stupider with using their brains when doing this stuff, and there's also the fact that you can't connect to PSN on a hacked PS4 because of how Sony blocks access.
@PurpCat i think it is partly because of how terminally online the entire world is now. back in the 360 era the dudes who were into the kind of thing that would get your console banned for piracy KNEW THEIR SHIT and they were on these forums specifically for it, you know? but now like, drama tubers like to spin things as much as possible and everyone who would never even be modding a switch in the first place is all upset about it.
Of course the problem is with how these bans are handled is stuff is gimped even trying to download something like say a media player, and on new Xboxes/Playstations you're likely to get console banned for making the jannies feel some type of way.
