wow I really don't want to implement OBS support for my streaming site, this is going to take weeks by itself and I have a week left to work on this thing.
@SuperDicq that part works, I am talking about remote-controlling OBS so that when for example, someone subscribes, it shows an animation onscreen in the stream. this requires interfacing with a very complicated websocket API

@sun@shitposter.world As far as I know even the big streamers don't do it like this. They usually just make a web source overlay for notifications instead.

@SuperDicq the animations are triggered by a third party application that connects to both Twitch via websocket and one protocol, and converts them to a different protocol that it sends to your OBS over websocket
@SuperDicq I don't know how it's done most of the time but its possible to use a web source. but I know some of them just make a predefined asset in your OBS scene visible

@sun @SuperDicq back when i did a lot of streaming, streamlabs would just give you a link to a webpage and you would use a web source.

now, they have an OBS fork and an OBS plugin that integrates the streamlabs functionality directly instead of being a web source that you drop in. i have no idea how that works, never used it. i think a lot of it costs money so i wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people still just use web sources.

@beardalaxy@gameliberty.club @sun@shitposter.world They made their own OBS fork just for their integrations? That sounds very devious because this type of stuff could definitely have just been a plugin instead.

Follow

@SuperDicq @sun they also have a plugin. i don't know all the differences between the two, tbh.

@beardalaxy@gameliberty.club @sun@shitposter.world The plugin is probably for people who realize they are getting swindled and don't want to install a random fork of an application that they already have and works just fine.

@SuperDicq @sun my guess is that the plugin is for people who have already been using OBS whereas the whole suite is for people who are just starting out and just want it all integrated without having to mess around with stuff. it probably has like, lots of presets and things like that if i had to guess.

@beardalaxy@gameliberty.club @sun@shitposter.world Even if you're starting out I would still recommend to use the real thing instead of some shady commercial fork.
