I just went through all possible objections and scenarios but I will start my new machine completely on Linux, looks like I will be using Mint as the main operating system. This is a first for me to depart from Windows like that but frankly I had enough of being pushed into things that I don't want to do or see by Microsoft.
and I didn't even mention all the mandatory spying

@irie I've got my windows install tweaked a lot to remove telemetry and all the annoying shit, but if I couldn't do that for some reason I would probably be using mint too, it's really good. Just make sure you really keep up on updates because I've had issues with not updating for too long and it'll skip important shit and brick itself. That's happened twice now.
I kind of have bad luck with Linux, tons of shit I either have to fix or that just flat out doesn't work and nobody seems to know why.
@beardalaxy oh wow that sounds kind of awful actually I hope that doesn't happen to me. but that's good to know, thanks. well in the worst case I will either dual boot or swallow the bitter pill and use Windows anyway but I will really try to avoid it entirely first
