Why did literally every single non-dystopian sci-fi story dramatically overestimate the technological and scientific progress we'd achieve in the future?

@ChristiJunior I believe it's just authors making up cool stuff with the hope that it could be real at some point. Though, a lot of those stories have a central theme around "how much tech is too much tech" likely from things they had observed happening already.
