If you're going to buy a game key card, just do it because the implications and consequences of this bullshit are just too much for the average consumer to even discern or go in-depth into. There is just no stopping this bullshit, honestly. Most people cannot think even a few steps ahead about consequences. This only gets fixed if Nintendo can somehow start producing Switch 2 cartridges that aren't expensive. With manufacturing being located in Japan and without Chinese sweatshop labor, I wonder if they can. Don't know enough specifics about cost of the components. It's honestly something only a few people would know, mostly being Nintendo themselves since they make the damn things.

@veru I've heard that it might actually be more expensive to make smaller carts since the modules don't actually exist and Nintendo would have to get them completely custom made. Don't know how accurate that is though.

If key carts didn't exist, the games would just be digital anyway. Developers aren't going to pay more money when they could just keep a game digital only. A key cart is a good in between solution for people who might still want to be able to lend/trade/sell the games.

I think the most elegant way to do things would be for developers to use switch 1 carts that will let you download a free switch 2 upgrade/edition. You're still downloading the game though and will lose access to it if the servers get taken down, the only benefit is that you'll still have the switch 1 version. Some games might just straight up not work running off a switch 1 cart either, of course.

As long as the actual Nintendo games are still physical I'll be fine, that's the only reason I have the consoles to begin with.

@beardalaxy @veru the switch 1 cart thing is what iirc is done on the PS5/Xbox I know for a fact it is on the Xbox

@PurpCat @veru is there such a thing as ps4 blu-rays as opposed to ps5 blu-rays? i mean i know there are blu-rays with larger storage sizes, but these days you aren't really playing the game off the disc anyway. the disc is more like an installer.

@PurpCat @veru oh okay i see what you're saying now yeah. i was just a little turned around because the comparison isn't exactly 100% there since the ps4 discs aren't like, less money to produce or anything like that.
