man, cyberpunk 2077 is really cpu intensive these days huh? gpu is sitting at a nice 30% usage and my frames are nice and fucked. crazy bottleneck there. i played it back at launch with a gtx 1080 and an i5-6600k at almost the same exact settings i'm using now with a 2080ti and an i5-10600k. looks like the new recommended cpu is an i7-12700k though.

looks like my next upgrade is a cpu, but i've known that for a while. only thing i'm worried about is that my gpu could explode at any moment, it's a miracle that thing is holding on to life still lol.

honestly it looks like 12700k(f) might just straight up be the way for me to go. i'll have to look into a bit more, but i don't want to have to get a new cooler or new RAM and that's best bang for buck right there it seems. i do still need to look at the AMD side though because if i can get a new board and the CPU with comparable performance for cheaper than the difference of the cooler i have, then i could get the cooler too. seems like it might be splitting hairs at that point though, all for a system that i'd inevitably be upgrading to ddr5 at some point in the future one day, maybe.

@beardalaxy congratulations PC gamedevs and openai on making consoles seem high value 🏆🎉

@sendpaws i mean, i could play on console-like settings and probably be fine lol, but it is particularly telling that buying a used console right now is going to be WAY better of a gaming experience than even a thousand dollar PC.

@sendpaws as in, linux is a better gaming experience on pc than windows? that's going to depend on a lot of factors lol.

@sendpaws of course i value everything else a computer can do over a console more than enough to pay a premium for it, but if you're just an average joe gamer it's retarded to buy a computer instead. there's a reason why most of my irl friends still play on console.

@sendpaws yup, for computer stuff my friends are all either using old laptops or chromebooks. who am i to judge though, like if it works for you and you're having a good time playing your games that's all that matters.
