i do wonder if they intend on eventually having normoids pivot entirely to phoneslop as "gaming"
@merchantHelios The graphics market is over

AAA are failing the fuck out and you can STILL rock a 1060 and play a surprising amount of games. I imagine you could have slightly better and just still play everything

If anything, IMO, the retards are gonna kill their entire market once China or another company catch up to their tech and the AI bubble bursts, as they're going to leave a massive hole to be filled, and once it's filled, it's gonna be over for them
@coolboymew @merchantHelios Speaking of GTX 1060 I still got one sitting in a box ( 6GB ) model. I thought about selling it but I may keep it as a backup GPU incase my 3070ti shits the bed.

The AAA needs to adapt and stop making expensive unoptomized pajeet coded slop if they want to get gamers to buy their games if there are hardware shortages.

That said the PS5 and Xbox Series generation has been a total fucking disaster. Just Shitty UE5 remakes of 20 year old games , package recompilations of older games. The best newest game I played of recent time wasn't even a AAA title and from a AA studio instead Sandfalls Expedition 33 Clair Obscur. Not the best game I ever played but it was really well done and modern studios should look at how to make a game instead of this unoptimized games a service slop and charging top dollar for it.

Xbox's most hyped title Halo: Infinite was an utter fucking disaster and the only good thing that came of it was it was soo bad Microsoft had to get rid of Bonnie Ross to save face.
@ooignignoktoo @coolboymew @merchantHelios It's not just the AAA space that needs work. I put most of the blame on Microsoft. Those handheld gaming PCs from the Steam Deck to the Legion Go could be the last bastion of optimized gaming, but too much software that's still reliant upon Windows is still a major annoyance. There's likely a growing amount of people that would rather play games and do everything else on a Mac (or even an iPad or iPhone) than suffer with Windows.
@berkberkman @coolboymew @merchantHelios yeah I think ProtonDB and DXVK are a game changer in the future of gaming. MIcrosoft's DX12 doesn't really offer anything new or exciting. 9.0c was the peak of DirectX gaming. DX 10 didn't add much and DX11 was all about tesselation. I think Vulkan is where it's at with crossplatform gaming. Sadly Apple wants to be a bunch of fags and not allow Vulkan on MacOS since they're still about OpenGL.
@ooignignoktoo @coolboymew @merchantHelios So far, the future of game development for AAA studios is still on Windows (and MacOS to a lesser extent) because getting those cinematic visuals, ray tracing effects, HDR, and anything from Dolby™ are strictly from those two operating systems. Linux and GNU have yet to reach complete support for those features, although I get that's just another part of what's wrong with AAA games in general.
There's not a lot of macOS because it breaks backwards comparability all the time. As long as there's not a system level copy protection on the CD, a ton of old XP games will still work today (although a lot do need patches, which some companies have done to get that long tail for old games on GoG/Steam).

I still have a 3080-Ti and don't see ever upgrading. Hell, the PS4 Pro hit that golden era of graphics that are more than good enough for most story-telling, puzzles and action. Sure Far Cry 6 might look way better on a 3080 but .. who the fuck cares, the game is shit and the characters all suck ass.

Games have to be fun. Fancy art is a nice touch, but the game still has to be .. a game. Red Dead 2 and Stardew Valley are on totally different levels tech wise, but they're both solid for being fun, interesting games.

Hopefully there will just be a return to games being .. well games, not tech demos with some shit story or god awful art drawn by a team of lesbians who probably can't even finish a visual novel.
@djsumdog @merchantHelios @berkberkman @coolboymew Yeah for now I'm still happy with my RTX 3070ti but I want to upgrade down the road to a better GPU with more VRAM. But every game I own right now just works on the 3070ti so why upgrade if I don't need to.

@ooignignoktoo @djsumdog @merchantHelios @berkberkman @coolboymew I still have a scuffed as fuck 2080ti, and I only play at 1080p for the most part. There are some games I do really need a cpu upgrade for but yeah for the most part I'm still good playing at high graphics even without dlss.

@beardalaxy @djsumdog @merchantHelios @berkberkman @coolboymew Right now I"m on a 5800X3D imo that's still a high end CPU ( best cpu for the AM4 socket ) . AM5 is not worth it right now with DDR5 Ram prices. 5800x3d works just fine for 1080p/1440p. 4k gaming is a meme and anything above 1440p is just burning money. That said 1080p is still viable. Shit I still game on a RGH modded Xbox360 from time to time and games for that are sub 720p 30FPS.

@ooignignoktoo @djsumdog @merchantHelios @berkberkman @coolboymew I have an i5 10600k which is great for most games but stuff like cyberpunk it still kind of struggles with. When I do upgrade it'll probably be to 12th Gen since it's the last one that works with ddr4. If the ram prices are still fucked, at least.

HEWEGO YAW UNKUH SAM GAWN PAY FUH AWW DIS HERE STOOPIT SHIT NIGGA LIVIN HIGH ON DUH HOGSKIN'S MONEY NIGGA :smug_monkey:

Do you think current RAM and part prices are just an after affect of the tulip AI mania, and things will become reasonable when that bubble pops, or are the price hikes going to be pushed harder by the "you'll own nothing an be happy" technocratic class, with consumer hardware growing to or staying at unobtainium for most of 2026?

@djsumdog @merchantHelios @berkberkman @coolboymew @ooignignoktoo well there are two plants currently being built in the US AFAIK and they are being expedited, and the AI bubble definitely is going to pop at some point I think, so the prices will definitely come down. They have shot up and then gone way down considerably before too, though not quite as much.
