The way that people talk about Chainsaw Man is genuinely confusing to me. Theres a post on Twitter going viral for saying "I love how Fujimoto refuses to turn intimacy into something sexual by default. He lets two people exist together, so vulnerable and unguarded." and it feels so.... baseline?

Like it genuinely feels like this generation doesn't realize that shit that has echhi or fanservice (or even semi related to "gooner" shit as seen here) can also... Basically be allowed to be a work of literature

@carlosruzu yeah i went and watched the movie with my roommate and he was absolutely glazing it, and the reviews are through the roof. it was good, definitely, but there also wasn't really anything about it that really struck a chord for me. it almost feels like a watered down amalgamation of every anime i've ever watched.

maybe it's because i've never seen the anime so i'm just not as hooked on the characters or anything like that but idk, i didn't see anything THAT special about it for it to warrant such insanely high praise. i get like... normie vibes from it all, honestly.

i can't help but wonder if the fan base is mostly younger people who just have not watched a lot of the fantastic and classic anime from the 90s/00s and they kind of just assume that all of this is extremely original and insanely good. and don't get me wrong, it IS good, but it also has this really weird "manufactured" feeling that i can't quite place.

Welcome to every piece of popular media from 2010 onward.

@Hephaestic @carlosruzu i was gonna say "but what about this?" and then i realize that... all the examples i can think of aren't really all that popular lol.
