the left and right mouse buttons feel so insanely chonky now, the actuation force is a little high haha. gonna' have to get used to that but it seems all good again! the replacement skates are also a bit stiff but i'm sure that they will wear down a bit over time.

@beardalaxy I've had to replace switches in 90s mice before, fun times

I think I just used some cheap Amazon switches for my PC-98 trackball because they were what shipped faster.

@sendpaws apparently the original switches in this mouse are ass and really prone to breaking, it didn't take them very long at all for me but i've kind of just dealt with it this whole time, using an old mouse for the most part when i didn't need the extra buttons. recently i got a new mouse and it just felt really bad in my hand, so i looked around for ways to fix this one again. turns out someone recently just started making replacement boards with better switches already soldered on and they were only like $15.
