ha, new monitor finally forced me to switch off of photoshop too because the old ass version i'm using doesn't support any DPI scaling except for 100% and 200%.

Trying out affinity and photopea, if I like either of them I'll switch. If not I might just end up pirating a new PS version. I'll keep the old one around too just in case I need it for some weird niche thing.

Photopea is almost exactly like PS and Affinity is pretty close from what I can tell. It'll be interesting to see. Right off the bat Affinity has some issues importing PSDs, stretches some shit out for some reason. I do like that I can change the mode in which pixels are displayed in it though... Photopea looks really chunky for those 720p thumbnails.

@beardalaxy I have affinity 1.0 but I refused to buy 2.0 with the online activation bullshit, and I also refuse to use their "free" cloud offering or whatever they do now. they claim you don't need to sign up for the cloud services to use it, but its all a trap to get you onto their platform in the end. idk I'm just gonna keep using Affinity 1.0

@BlinkRape it's free to use, and stored locally, but you have to create an account for it. you pay if you wanna use their AI features. could just make a burner email and use that honestly lmao.

but if 1.0 still works then right on. i'm the guy who was using photoshop from 2015 so i ain't gonna judge lol.

@beardalaxy honestly I don't like the implications for things like telemetry or other stuff going on. There has to be some catch than just trying to get you to use their AI service.

I wish they had just kept selling perpetual licenses with no bullshit activation, etc

@BlinkRape it's probably a way that Canva can steal as much of adobe's userbase as possible and funnel them towards their own revenue streams. since adobe is way larger, i'd assume that any amount of userbase they can take from them is good.

@beardalaxy either way I looked into it again, and it was enough to damper any potential interest in trying it.
