I'm addicted to arguing with people online and it causes me a non-insignificant amount of distress. It's pointless. I don't think I've ever "changed someone's mind" on anything. Whether it's because I'm just bad at debating or I'm always talking to brick walls it's just fruitless. I really need to stop doing it.

@beardalaxy ngl i did it for a long, long time and ultimately it really is pointless. the longer you do it the more you realize it's more an addiction born of boredom than anything else. not to mention it really does do a lot of damage to your psychological and spiritual well being, especially in the long term.

i would say that IF you're going to engage in the behavior there should be a real point you're trying to make, not just to the person that you're arguing with but to the people that might be reading the exchange, and not just something you're doing to feed your ego and/or soothe your frustrated boredom.
@beardalaxy
I'm exactly the same way, but I did once manage to change someone's mind on a very important topic about politics - although he didn't acknowledge it.
Knowing that I will never again accomplish such a feat has given me some closure.

@Hephaestic i've only ever really been able to have a good back-and-forth in person, never online.
