It's finally over. My players beat the final boss. They had 3 NPCs die in the final fight and one get petrified, but they should be able to bring that one back. They all got really close to dying, it was on the wire, which means I did my job right lol. One of them was getting pummeled pretty hard and seemed kind of upset about it but there's not much I can do outside of fudging dice rolls in the players' favor and that's something I'm not going to do in a boss fight against a literal god. It doesn't help that I tend to roll high on my D20s. It isn't necessarily supposed to feel cool, it's supposed to be absolutely grueling. It definitely was, but they all pulled through despite the casualties of some friends. I gave them the resources to win and in the end they managed them well enough to do so.
The part that was pretty cool IMO is that the one PC who had a personal vendetta against the god was the one who dealt the final blow.
The campaign lasted over two years. What a crazy journey it was. I'm going to miss it but I'm relieved I don't have to DM anymore for now. Weight off my shoulders, even though I enjoy it a lot haha.
