Went to a business connections thing talking about bringing high schoolers into the work force with high skilled jobs, training them because the old guard is aging out. There have even been legislation changes (with more in the works) to make sure it is easier to do. Kids can basically spend half their schooling in trades while getting paid for it, and the community directly benefits from it too. Pretty cool stuff and it was good to see a bunch of likeminded people trying to make sure our future is a good one. Good to have a white pill every now and then.
@mitchconner it's a little sad that most of this stuff either flat out didn't exist or was just getting started when I was in school, but I'm glad we have ways for kids to get into it now. I was able to do a little bit of audio production in a similar way in high school but I was paying for it instead of being paid and I had a lot of other things going on, it just didn't make sense at the time. But yeah, it's good to see the investment now and I'm not stupid enough to be salty about it. I've seen the sentiment "well I didn't get anything like that so they shouldn't either" way too much from my generation and a lot of Gen Z too.
@mitchconner the business I'm in now is way more niche and way less necessary for society to function but I still hope we can pick some middle or high schoolers up and get them into something specialized that AI can't encroach on.
@beardalaxy it's one of the things we do well over here and that actually work.
